From the President, Bernard Lander, Ph.D., L.H.D.

Touro College is dedicated to serving the educational needs of our whole community. Part of this commitment is to bring the benefits of education to all children, adolescents, and adults, regardless of individual differences or special needs. The Graduate School of Education and Psychology, is a principal instrument for fulfilling this commitment. The special character of the Graduate School of Education and Psychology is expressed in its concentration on the development of each person's ability to have access to and to apply his or her own intelligence, and to use that intelligence as a primary tool for effective thinking and learning. We believe that every person can think more logically and learn more effectively than he or she is doing at any given time. Through the special methods applied in our graduate programs , learners who have need of special help will come much closer to realizing their individual potential. The Touro College community is enthusiastic about these Graduate programs with their celebration of individual differences, and optimistic about their value to the broader community

And from the Dean, Anthony Polemeni, Ph.D.

The Graduate School of Education and Psychology holds to a pervading philosophy that guides all of our programs with respect to theories of human development, methods of education, methods of assessment of individual differences, and overall approaches to our job as citizens. We hold that the primary goal of learning is more learning, that the mission of education is to stretch minds, that is, to enhance each person's educability, and ultimately to produce life-long learners who can become independent of formal education. Every person is modifiable, which is to say that all of us can develop our intellectual potential to a higher level. We place a central emphasis on the development of the tools of effective thinking and learning, a strong belief in the value of family participation in education, and dedication to multi-culturalism in all of our teaching. We also believe strongly in learning by doing, so our students will apply what they learn in controlled settings. We welcome learners at every level. Good thinking to all!
