In many cases, a student's demographic characteristics...race, gender, national origin, socio-economic status, or language proficiency... is used as a predictor of academic achievement, graduation or dropout rates, and college and career readiness, according to some scholars. What practical strategies can school administrators, teachers, student support personnel, parents and community leaders implement to ensure academic excellence among all learners regardless of demography? Schools must create a school environment for children and youth that better meet their needs, actively engage them in learning, and provides a safe and healthy community so that students graduate high school with the knowledge and skills to be successful in college and careers. The discussion will focus on a number of practical strategies for ensuring academic equity and excellence among all learners.
