Despite decades of effort, we have yet to fully address the inadequate resources and structural inequities that persist in our K-12 public education system, resulting in seemingly intractable achievement and opportunity gaps between white students and students of color. Issues related to desegregation, disproportionate representation in special education, needs of English Language Learners, equitable access to highly qualified teachers, the dropout crisis, and the achievement gap all require more targeted, systemic, and comprehensive attention and action
