Comprehensive Kids Developmental School
Center-Based Services
Comprehensive Kids Developmental School is a New York State approved special education preschool. We offer services for children ages 3 to 5 who are experiencing developmental delays. Our services are provided through the NYC Department of Education Committee on Preschool Special Education (CPSE). Children attend a full day class with a high teacher/pupil ratio. During the school day we provide individual and group therapies (speech, occupational, physical, and counseling) as recommended on the children’s IEPs.
Our early childhood program is built on the philosophy that all children can learn. We strive to identify the strengths and interests of each individual child. This information allows us to create an exciting learning environment designed to enable the children to reach their maximum potential. A highly individualized and personalized teaching approach is utilized in meeting students’ needs through a wide-range of enjoyable and educational activities.
Our Language and literacy based curriculum addresses each child’s Individual Education Plan (IEP) while assisting them toward mastery of the New York State Learning Standards for Early Childhood. Our staff members are dedicated professionals who provide a wide range of learning opportunities to allow children to develop and grow. All classrooms are designed as interactive environments where children are encouraged to become independent. Learning centers provide the core of experiences, but educational field trips are also commonplace. The curriculum reflects an understanding and appreciation of multiculturalism and diversity.
SEIT Services
In addition to center-based classrooms, Comprehensive Kids offers Special Education Itinerant Teacher (SEIT) services. These specialized services are available to children who attend community based preschool settings (i.e. Head Start, Daycare) or can be provided in the home. Our special education teachers will travel to the child’s preschool setting and/or home and will work in collaboration with the classroom staff, supervisors and families. Each child’s IEP goals will be addressed as they continue to engage in their typical daily activities be it at home or school.
Family Support
Comprehensive Kids also provides a supportive environment for families. Family participation in each child’s school experience is a critical component in assuring a child’s success. Comprehensive Kids encourages families to visit and participate as often as possible. In addition, we offer family programs that provide support, education and training. |
