Welcome to the Student Chapter of the ACM

by Shmuel Fink

Welcome to the Fall edition of the Touro College student chapter of the ACM (Association for Computing Machinery) newsletter. The chapter would like to extend a Mazel Tov to the Chairman of the Computer Science Department, Isaac Herskowitz, on his engagement to Anna Raynes. Joining the student chapter of the ACM is free. All you have to do is fill out the attached form and return it to the lab technician. The more you participate in chapter events the more of an edge you will have when applying for a job in the computer industry.

The chapter has already set up phase one of a web page, and we are looking for volunteers to help assist in phase two. The web site is located at

http://www.touro.edu/ACM/inform.htm

Copies of this newsletter and last semester's edition can be found at our web site.

Our current officers are Mordechai Shtern - President, Zev Wolman- Vice President, and Eliezer Weisz- Secretary. Mazel Tov to Mordechai upon his engagement to Adina Katz, and to Eliezer upon his engagement to Jordana David. Thanks to all our officers for contributing to this newsletter and helping to put together our first Computer Society meeting of the year despite their hectic schedules.

We are looking for contributors to our bi-annual newsletter and our web page. Busy schedules are no excuse (consider the contributors to this issue). You can write an article on any topic that you find to be of interest, as long as it is computer related. If you have a paper to write for an English class, take the opportunity to write something that can be used for the newsletter as well. Designing something for our web page could be enjoyable and a great learning experience. Future plans for our web page include a form to enter personal information and maintaining an alumni database to help students network for job placement.

Please approach one of the officers or myself if you would like to volunteer or if you have any ideas for future chapter speakers or events. Additionally, you can email us at:
