This site is a focal point for information and news about Touro's research programs and about the accomplishments of the university's distinguished faculty. As you review the site's contents--from the descriptions of Touro's major research focus areas, to our research news--you will see that Touro's approach to research is distinctive in two ways.
First, much of our research is interdisciplinary. The questions researchers are asking today--and the questions being asked of researchers--are highly complex and challenging. It often takes teams of scientists and engineers, from more than a single discipline, to attack them. We aim to drop the traditional barriers to cross-departmental education and research to make Touro a place where interdisciplinary work thrives.
Second, most of the research done at Touro has important practical applications. Our faculty and students are drawn to problems that are both interesting and important to society. Even researchers who are addressing fundamental questions are aware of and motivated by the potential for their work to make a difference to humanity. The tradition of applying theory to solve meaningful problems and developing solutions that can change the world in positive ways goes back to Touro's founding. It is deeply ingrained in our culture.
Collaborating across disciplines and working in modern facilities Touro faculty and graduate students are working every day to solve some of the most pressing issues of our time in a broad range of fields, including healthcare, sustainability, and educational assessment. I invite you to explore this site to see for yourself how Touro researchers are making a difference and making the world a better place.
