DEPARTMENT OF POLITICAL SCIENCE

Political science majors must successfully complete ten 3-credit courses in political science, which must include the following five courses:

1. POL 101 American Politics
2. POL 102 Comparative Politics
3. POL 103 International Relations
4. POL 201 Introduction to Political Theory
5. POL 493 Advanced Topics in Social Science

1. Political science honors majors must successfully complete 36 total credits in political science, comprised of:
   1. six required courses (18 credits )
      1. POL 101 American Politics
      2. POL 102 Comparative Politics
      3. POL 103 International Relations
      4. POL 201 Introduction to Political Theory
      5. POL 493 Advanced Topics in Social Science
      6. POL 494 Senior Honors Project in Political Science
      
      
   2. six elective courses, excluding POL 485, POL 486, and POL 487 (18 credits).
   
   
2. At least 5 of the student’s 12 courses in political science must come from among those designated “Honors Courses,” which are indicated by the letter “H” at the end of the course number. The specific courses designated “Honors” vary from semester to semester, and include both required courses and electives.
   
3. Students must also attend a non-credit seminar which provides them with instruction in research and bibliographical methods.
   
4. Students must have accrued at least a 3.5 cumulative GPA in Political Science courses to graduate as Honors Majors.

What are the requirements for a minor in political science?

Political science minors must successfully complete six 3-credit courses, including:

1. POL 101 American Politics
   
2. EITHER two of the following three courses:
   POL 102 Comparative Politics
   POL 103 International Relations
   POL 201 Introduction to Political Theory
   and three additional political science electives (may not include MAT 261 or POL 485, 486, or 487).

3. All three of the following courses:
   POL 102 Comparative Politics
   POL 103 International Relations
   POL 201 Introduction to Political Theory
   and two additional political science electives (may not include MAT 261 or POL 485, 486, or 487).
