SpEd 698 MA (3 credits)
Field Experience in Bilingual Education and Service Delivery
Since students in the program are certified professionals who have been actually serving the bilingual population, their substantial (no less than one full academic year) work experience will be considered as fulfillment of the field experience requirement upon submitting the following documentation to the Director of the Bilingual Program:
1. A letter from a supervisor describing paid service delivery to bilingual students to document acceptable work experience with bilingual populations.
2. A portfolio that includes samples of professional work with bilingual populations such as case histories, evaluation reports, progress notes, samples of IEPs.
3. An essay describing the student’s cross-cultural experiences with children from various ethnolinguistic backgrounds. It may include home-community involvement with a bilingual population, not necessarily in a professional capacity, e.g. parent groups, community advocacy, youth leadership, etc. It may describe a student’s involvement in professional organizations that have relevance to professional experiences with the bilingual population. It may include study abroad, living in foreign countries or within different ethnic communities.
4. Evidence of professional development (e.g., attendance at conferences, workshops, in- service consultations, publications, grant-writing, etc.) relevant to bilingual/multicultural issues.

*Students that are currently teaching can provide a video/lesson plan in lieu of onsite classroom observation. Students that are not currently teaching or working with children will be placed in a setting that is appropriate for the practicum. (For further information, see Dr. Castagno)
