  Ronald Lehrer, Ph.D.
Professor of Psychology and Education
Chair,
Graduate Studies in Education and Special Education
 
Dr. Lehrer received his BA from Hunter College, an MS from Brooklyn College, an MSW from Hunter College, and a PhD from New York University.

Dr. Lehrer began his career in education and special education as a New York City public school teacher. Before coming to Touro College, he taught for 15 years in the graduate program in special education at Brooklyn College and for 5 years in the undergraduate and graduate programs of the New York University School of Social Work.

Dr. Lehrer has been directing Touro College education and special education programs since 1998. He has also been a practicing psychotherapist for 25 years. His interests include the history and philosophy of psychology and education, innovative methods of instruction for students with emotional and behavioral problems, and collaborative relationships between schools and families.

Dr. Lehrer's publications include a book on the history of psychoanalysis, a book on the psychology of Friedrich Nietzsche for which he was an editor and contributor, and articles in journals such as Philosophy, Psychiatry, and Psychology, The Psychoanalytic Review, Psychoanalytic Dialogues, and the Newsletter of the Association for the Advancement of Psychology and Philosophy. He has recently contributed an entry to The Freud Encyclopedia.
