School Administration and Supervision








		Touro College offers a graduate-level program for professionals in the field of education who aspire to become school building leaders or school district leaders. Students may choose one of two tracks leading to the degree Master of Science in School Administration. Students who desire to work at the school building /level must complete 33 credits, including a two-semester internship at the school building level. Students aspiring to work at the district level must complete 36 credits, including a two-semester internship at the regional office or district office level. Students will identify their professional goals upon application to the program and course work will be geared to preparing them to meet the administrative challenges at the school building or at the regional or district level. Students who are candidates for district-level certification must present evidence of having completed 60 graduate credits, including a Master's degree, before applying for New York State certification. Candidates for New York State certification at the building or district level must pass a State licensure examination. The course of study prepares school building and district leaders to serve in public and private institutions. The curriculum is multicultural with an emphasis on the organization, supervision, and effective utilization) of school and district resources. Theory and practice are offered in a context congruent with current best practices of teaching, learning, and leadership. The use of technology as a major means of communication and organization is an integral part of both programs. The programs in School Administration and Supervision are designed for full time working educators. Students who follow the recommended sequence of courses will be able to complete the program within a two-year period Students may apply to transfer up to six graduate credits towards the Master of Science Degree or the Advanced Professional Certificate in School Administration and Supervision. Students must present an official transcript from all Graduate Divisions at which the courses were taken. A signed Application for Transfer Credit must be completed by the student and approved by an advisor and the Dean before any credit is granted. Program faculty includes school building and district administrators from the Half Hollow school district, who address current issues of instruction and management for educational leaders.



		Goals

		The goals of the graduate program in school administration and supervision are to prepare school and district leaders for 21st Century schools and to assist each student to develop the characteristics of effective leadership. Students will be provided the opportunity to acquire expertise in analyzing a school's or district's educational condition through the use of data; utilizing available resources effectively and efficiently; identifying new human and fiscal resources; and communicating a comprehensive educational vision to a broad and diverse community. The program seeks to develop school/district leaders who foster a continuous learning environment for students, staff and the community as a whole.



		Student Body to be Served

		The Graduate Division supports the educational needs of education personnel who are employed and simultaneously desire to upgrade their professional preparation and obtain additional credentials. Evening and weekend classes are offered to accommodate the needs of these working professionals.
