Free Courses for New York City Teachers of Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, and English Language Arts (grades 6 - 12)
If you are a certified New York City secondary content-area teacher, you are invited by the New York City Department of Education Office of English Language Learners (ELLs) and the Touro College Lander Center for Educational Research to apply for the LANGUAGE DEVELOPMENT IN THE CONTEXT OF THE DISCIPLINES (LDCD) PROGRAM
LDCD participants receive:
• Free tuition for three courses at Touro College (nine credits)
a) EDU639 Trends and Current Issues in Second Language Acquisition
b) EDU634 Basic Reading and Writing Instruction: Teaching Reading and Writing for Second Language Learners
c) EDU637 Second Language Learners and the Content Areas
• Opportunity to participate in at least 35 hours of free TESOL-related Professional Development training through conferences, study groups, and a summer institute – applicable to New York State’s requirement of 175 hours per five years for certification
• Opportunity to apply for a Master’s degree in TESOL from Touro College
• Opportunity to apply for an ESL certification extension through the New York State Intensive Teacher Institute ( ITI )
Participants in the LDCD Program must complete all three courses within two years. Up to 40 teachers will be accepted into the LDCD Program this year. Participants pay a registration fee of $100 per semester.
