Update Regarding Student Records Investigation
Monday, October 20, 2008
Last week it was reported that the Manhattan District Attorney has brought additional charges - since the original indictment of last summer - against former administrators of Touro College for their alleged involvement in a scheme to create and sell fraudulent student transcripts at the College. Also, another former Touro employee has been charged.
All of the recent developments relate to events that occurred prior to March 2007, when the first arrest was made.
It is important to note that Touro initially detected the scheme and turned the matter over to law enforcement. The College has worked with those authorities as they have conducted their investigation, and will continue to do so. Touro has been publicly commended by District Attorney Morgenthau for its cooperation and assistance in this case.
Touro of course remains deeply concerned about the allegations, and takes great pride in its students’ efforts and achievements. Touro has done and will continue to do everything in its power to address any issues that have arisen as a result of this matter. Touro is committed to all of its hard-working students and graduates and is determined to ensure that this situation in no way diminishes the value of a Touro education.
The college takes very seriously its obligation to safeguard the accuracy of student records and the integrity of its academic processes, and has taken measures to protect against anything like this happening again.
The Office of the Registrar will continue to respond promptly to any inquiries that students or their employers, potential employers, or any graduate or professional programs may have regarding student records. Please call 212-463-0400, ext. 5635 or e-mail to registrarinfo@touro.edu if you have any questions.
Our president, Dr. Bernard Lander, has emphasized how important it is to everyone at Touro, and to him personally, that Touro graduates, and the degrees and other credentials they have earned, be treated with the respect they deserve, and that their employers recognize this. Please be assured that Touro remains committed to doing everything in its power to secure that outcome.
