
About the Master of Science Program in Speech & Language Pathology
Touro College’s School of Health Sciences offers a Master of Science degree program in Speech-Language Pathology which is accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation of the American Speech-Language Hearing Association (ASHA) and is registered with the New York State Department of Education. Graduates meet the academic and clinical requirements for ASHA certification as well as New York State licensure.
Touro College’s Graduate Program in Speech-Language Pathology has been approved by the New York State Department of Education to recommend students for the Teacher of Students with Speech and Language Disabilities Certificate (TSSLD) upon completion of the Master’s degree. In addition to the speech sequence, students must have completed a prescribed sequence of education courses, seminars and exams.
Upon completion of the Master’s degree program, passing of the applicable examinations, and postgraduate clinical fellowship employment experience, students are eligible to apply for ASHA certification (CCC) and NYS licensure.
Touro’s Master’s degree program in Speech-Language Pathology provides a broad-based and comprehensive education in the theoretical and practical aspects of the field. Under the direction of devoted and experienced faculty, students gain knowledge and skills needed to assess and treat individuals with diverse needs. They are also prepared to manage the record keeping and reporting requirements of the various types of institutions in which they will be employed.
Our graduates are highly sought after for employment. Based upon exit interviews conducted with students, our student employment rate approaches 98%. National Speech Praxis Examination pass rates for our students have been significantly above the national average. For example, over the last 3 years of testing, our pass rate was 91%, while the national average for that period was 80%. Since its inception, the program boasts a completion rate of 99%.
