The Theater at Madison Square Garden, NYC The Graduate School of Technology held commencement exercises honoring graduates in the 2009-2010 academic year on June 10, 2010. The ceremony was held jointly with the other schools in the Touro College Division of Graduate Studies, at The Theater at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Dr. Issac Herskowitz presented 32 candidates for the degree of Master of Science in Information Systems, and Sunil Shakya was the student speaker for the Graduate School of Technology.

Dean of Touro College Graduate School of Technology
MSIS 605 / Strategic Management of Technology Dr. Herskowitz presentation focused on several aspects of Teamwork, beginning with the importance of teamwork in the successful management of a technology staff. He then analyzed the special characteristics of teamwork, using as examples the top performing teams at IBM. He ended his talk with several tips for students about how to get ahead in an Information Technology career.

MSIS 639 / Database Design Mr. Philippe Liautaud, Chief Financial Officer of Coleman Research Group will be the guest speaker in Professor John Polis' class, MSIS 639, Database Design, on November 21, 2011. Mr. Liautaud is a seasoned finance professional with extensive budgeting, process re-engineering, reporting, planning and analysis skills, a growth agent with a track record of developing innovative approaches to designing and organizing business plans.

Mr. Liautaud will speak on "How database design impacts financial analysis and decision making." He will discuss how CFOs and Controllers work with IT departments to insure that financial information is available in a way that can be easily used in financial planning and decision making.

MSIS 605 / Strategic management of Technology Mr. Jain will be a guest speaker in Professor Benjamin Lunzer's class, MSIS 605, Strategic Management of Technology. Presently Senior Vice President for Corporate Security at Bank of America Merrill lynch, Dr. Jain is a financial services industry expert in the areas of distributed computing, middleware and enterprise security. He has held development, architecture, and technology management roles at Goldman Sachs, Lehman Brothers, and JP Morgan Chase.

Dr. Jain will speak on the topic, "Security Architectures and Technology Trends," in which he will discuss the emerging trends that are integrating hardware and software solutions being targeted both toward commercial and entertainment markets.

Data Communications Manager, Touro College
MSIS 640 / Data Communications Mr. Robert Kariyev will be a guest speaker in Professor Joseph Herbst's class, MSIS 640 Data Communications on November 16, 2011. As Manager of Data Communications, reporting to the Touro CIO, Mr. Kariyev is responsible for the entire college computer network, including wiring, communications, routers, and network security.

Mr. Kariyev will speak to the students about the "Real World of Data Communications."He will discuss the state of the art in Data Communications technology today, a complex and fast changing field, using Touro's worldwide network as an example of how a large and diversified network needs to cope with the struggles of the real world.

MSIS 620 / Data Mining and Warehousing Mr. Plegman was a guest speaker in Professor Isaac Gabriel's class, MSIS 620, Data Mining and Warehousing. As Managing Partner, Mr. Plegman supervises all of the data management systems at TechPar Group

Mr. Plegman spoke about new trends in data warehousing, focusing on "Managing Big Data." He surveyed the tools and issues involved in managing large data sets.

MSIS 620 / Data Mining and Warehousing Dr. Gabriel presented at the 13th International Conference on Electronic Commerce in Liverpool, UK. Entitled Succeeding In A Modern Online Travel Marketplace: What Do Consumers Need From A Travel Reservation Web Site?, Dr. Gabriel's presentation reported on the results of a research study that identified dimensions consumers use when selecting travel reservation web sites for their travel needs. This research identified two such dimensions as follows: 1) Reliability & Information, and 2) Ease of Use & Reassurance. In other words, consumers need to be confident that the site is reliable and their personal information is being handled adequately. In addition, there is an urge to get more information, whether it is related to their traveling destination or, simply, consists of comments and opinions of fellow travelers. Consumers are also looking for intuitive and user-friendly web site interfaces while preferring to have a choice of using advanced search capabilities when needed. Finally, consumers wish to get reassured that adequate secure technologies were utilized in the transmission of sensitive data when interacting with the web site. The full paper is published in the conference proceedings and will be available through the ACM digital library.

MSIS 622 / Legal, Social and Ethical Issues in Technology Mr. Donald Davis, Senior Information Technology Director for the City of New York Department of Finance, will be a guest speaker in Professor Robert Paskus class, MSIS 622, Legal, Social, and Ethical Issues in Technology. Mr. Davis manages applications and infrastructure for all department Microsoft projects. Prior to this, he served the US Defense Intelligence Agency as a Certified Senior Intelligence Analyst, responsible for gathering information on other nations' military capacities.
Mr. Davis will speak about Ethics and Security in the Military Intelligence Community.

Mr. Abraham Cytryn, CTO, Time Inc.
MSIS 611 / Leadership in the Technology Organization Mr. Abraham Cytryn will be a guest speaker in Professor Robert Klein's class, MSIS 611, Leadership in the Technology Organization, on April 11, 2011. Mr. Cytryn has served Time Inc. for 25 years, the last two years as Chief Technology Officer. He is currently responsible for strategies and core technologies in support of new business models and product development, as well as the enabling technologies for content delivery, search, social networking, tablet and mobile products.
Mr. Cytryn will speak to the class about the changing skills and makeup of successful IT organizations for the next decade.
