The new Women’s Division Dormitory is located on the Upper West Side of Manhattan in the heart of New York City’s Jewish community. This completely renovated seven-story building has 30 apartments on six floors with its own twenty-four hour security guard. On the main floor there is a two-level social/study lounge. An additional women’s study lounge is available on the first floor. Each apartment is fully equipped with modern kitchen facilities and generous closet and storage space. Some of our apartments are two storied with beautiful staircases and alcoves, all have high ceilings and are sun-filled. These units have been decorated with beautiful new contemporary furniture including tables and chairs in the dining room areas. Washers and dryers are available on the lower level.
In addition to its excellent physical facilities, the dorm is staffed by caring and devoted individuals who are responsible for the well being of our young women. Senior students serve as dorm counselors and are housed on each floor. A dorm counselor is on duty each night, available to assist in problems that may develop. Most importantly, our new dorm mother, Mrs. Malkie Katz, resides in an apartment in our building and she and her husband maintain an open-door policy and encourage their charges to come visit at all hours of the day and night and to share Shabbat with them.
The dorm is within walking distance of many synagogues, Jewish bookstores, kosher restaurants and shopping. The young orthodox families in the neighborhood are a welcoming home away from home, especially on Shabbat, for many of the students. The Touro Women's Division Dormitory Student Council oversees a vibrant series of activities which include Oneg Shabbat programs as well as Shabbatonim, Chanukah and Purim Chagigot, and other excursions in and around New York City.
