VISION

The Touro College Libraries aspire to be the primary resource for intellectual content College-wide.

MISSION

To fulfill the mission of the College, the Touro College Libraries foster intellectual discovery and advance information literacy.

STRATEGIC PLAN 9/2006-8/2011

The Touro College Libraries' Strategic Plan covers a five-year plan, from September 1, 2006 through August 31, 2011. It is divided into five sections that highlight the libraries' goals in the areas of collections, services, facilities, staff and organizational development, and visibility.

Goal I: Collections - Acquire, manage, preserve, create, and provide access to physical, digital, and virtual library collections that support the College's academic programs and information needs.

**Objectives Measures**
Review 1) standard bibliographies, 2) subject lists prepared by learned associations, 3) review sections of scholarly journals, and 4) reviewing media for material in light of the scope and extent of academic programs, level of student enrollment, copyright restrictions, and the timeliness of intra- and inter-library loan.	Increase in the size of the physical, digital, and virtual collections.
Encourage faculty participation in the selection of new library resources.	Increase in faculty involvement in selection.
Segregate heavily used library resources and assign them as reference, reserve/ereserve, nonprint, journal, and rarities collections to facilitate access to them and for purposes of security and preservation.	Meeting preservation needs.
Review library collections for deselection based on curricular changes, the currency and accuracy of material, and the availability of print material online.	Following a weeding schedule.
Preserve the record of human knowledge in all formats represented in the library collections.	Achievement of a satisfactory service quality and user satisfaction with collections measured via an online survey.
Expand Touro Digital Collections.	Increase in the number of Touro Digital Collections projects.
Create Touro Archives.	Size of Touro Archives.
Enhance and maintain the Library Catalog and Virtual Library.	Increase in the size the Library Catalog and Virtual Library.
Monitor and maintain concurrent user licenses so the College community will normally encounter no delay in gaining access to electronic library resources.	Decrease in incidences of denied access to electronic resources.

Goal II: Services - Provide library services that promote the College's educational programs, foster information skills, support the diverse needs of users, and encourage optimum use of library resources and technology.

**Objectives Measures**
Work with faculty to understand their educational objectives and teaching methods, communicate library capabilities, and develop customized instructional support services.	Increase in the number of customized instructional support services.
Plan, develop, implement, and promote a dynamic program of information literacy.	Increase in the number of the courses and groups reached by information literacy efforts.
Make library services available to all members of the College community, including nontraditional students and persons with disabilities and special needs, as determined by each school, program, and campus.	Impact of instruction activities on student learning in classroom and online environments.
Arrange the bulk of the library collections by subject in open areas to permit browsing and circulation, extend accessibility with copier and reader/printers, and offer intra- and inter-library loan and referrals to extend and increase library resources and services without weakening a commitment to develop internal holdings.	Achievement of a satisfactory service quality and user satisfaction with services via an online survey.
Provide library users access to emerging technologies.	Achievement of satisfactory intra- and inter- library loan and referral activity in relation to use of the collections.

Goal III: Facilities - Create physical environments in the libraries that are conducive to the discovery, learning, scholarship, and the exchange of ideas.

**Objectives Measures**
Provide library facilities and staff based on levels of student enrollment, the range and quality of resources and service needed, and usage patterns.	Meeting spatial and staffing needs at all library locations.
Ensure the security of library resources, clients, and staff; and meet the accessibility needs of persons with disabilities and special needs.	Meeting security and accessibility needs.
Monitor the functionality of library floor plans and use of space.	Making necessary adjustments to the use of space at all library locations.
Monitor and maintain satisfactory levels of library climate control and ergonomics.	Making necessary adjustments to climate control and the design of furniture and equipment at all library locations.
Provide adequate space for library users and staff.	Achievement of a satisfactory service quality and user satisfaction with facilities via an online survey.

Goal IV: Staff and Organizational Development - Develop library venues to enrich the College experience and support activities to enhance the development of library staff.

**Objectives Measures**
Develop library events and activities to enrich the lives of the College community.	Increase in the number of programs and exhibits offered College-wide.
Enhance communication, collaboration, and cooperation within the College libraries.	Increase internal cooperation as demonstrated via a communication survey.
Provide current and emerging technology to library staff.	Improvement of overall job performance and efficiency of staff due to technology implementations.
Provide new product training for library staff.	Increase in the number of new product training sessions.
Promote leadership opportunities for all library employees.	Increase in attendance at library leadership and supervisory conferences, seminars, programs, and courses.

Goal V: Visibility - Publicize library activities and events and promote the use of library facilities, resources, and services.

**Objectives Measures**
Market library services at faculty workshops, library instruction sessions, and customized information literacy venues.	Increase in the promotion of library facilities, resources, and services at College events.
Publicize the availability of library facilities, resources, and services through the Virtual Library, The TCL Letter: A Newsletter of the Touro College Libraries, and special event signage and posters in the libraries.	Increase in the use of the Virtual Library, distribution and online use of The TCL Letter: A Newsletter of the Touro College Libraries, and special event advertising.
Create new programming efforts that highlight new library products and services.	Increase in the number of training sessions and workshops.
