Strategic Plan 9/2006-8/2011
VISION
The Touro College Libraries aspire to be the primary resource for intellectual
content College-wide.
MISSION
To fulfill the mission of the College, the Touro College Libraries foster
intellectual discovery and advance information literacy.
STRATEGIC PLAN 9/2006-8/2011
The Touro College Libraries' Strategic Plan covers a five-year plan, from
September 1, 2006 through August 31, 2011. It is divided into five
sections that highlight the libraries' goals in the areas of collections,
services, facilities, staff and organizational development, and visibility.
Goal I: Collections - Acquire, manage, preserve, create, and provide
access to physical, digital, and virtual library collections that support
the College's academic programs and information needs.

| Review 1) standard bibliographies, 2) subject lists prepared by learned
associations, 3) review sections of scholarly journals, and 4) reviewing
media for material in light of the scope and extent of academic programs,
level of student enrollment, copyright restrictions, and the timeliness
of intra- and inter-library loan. |

digital, and virtual collections. |

| Segregate heavily used library resources and assign them as reference,
reserve/ereserve, nonprint, journal, and rarities collections to facilitate

Goal II: Services - Provide library services that promote the
College's educational programs, foster information skills, support the
diverse needs of users, and encourage optimum use of library resources
and technology.

| Work with faculty to understand their educational objectives and teaching
methods, communicate library capabilities, and develop customized instructional
support services. |
Increase in the number of customized instructional support services. |
| Plan, develop, implement, and promote a dynamic program of information
literacy. |
Increase in the number of the courses and groups reached by information
literacy efforts. |
| Make library services available to all members of the College community,
including nontraditional students and persons with disabilities and special
needs, as determined by each school, program, and campus. |
Impact of instruction activities on student learning in classroom and
online environments. |
| Arrange the bulk of the library collections by subject in open areas
to permit browsing and circulation, extend accessibility with copier and
reader/printers, and offer intra- and inter-library loan and referrals
to extend and increase library resources and services without weakening
a commitment to develop internal holdings. |

Goal III: Facilities - Create physical environments in the libraries
that are conducive to the discovery, learning, scholarship, and the exchange

and posters in the libraries. |
Increase in the use of the Virtual Library, distribution
and online use of The TCL Letter: A Newsletter of the Touro College
Libraries, and special event advertising. |
| Create new programming efforts that highlight
new library products and services. |
