The School for Lifelong Education
The School for Lifelong Education
and its Guided Independent Study Program were established in 1989 to serve
the academic needs of the Chassidic communities, whose unique culture,
commitment and lifestyle require bold and innovative approaches to higher
learning. The program is open to mature and motivated students whose learning
is facilitated in a variety of ways without their attending regularly scheduled
classes.
Instruction is offered in a variety of modalities to accomodate the student's lifestyle and commitments to family and occupation. Mentorials are scheduled by appointment and provide the student not only with the opportunity to complete course requirements, but also expand their research into specialized topics of interest. Collaboratives of 3 to 8 students are scheduled on alternate weeks, providing a medium of academic exchange between instructors and students, based on completed modules of work done outside the classroom. Traditional classes are held for courses required by the State Education Department for certification.
Guided Independent Study leads to the Associate in Arts (A.A.), the Bachelor of Science (B.S.)
and Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degrees in Interdisciplinary Liberal Arts and Sciences,
and to the Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in Judaic Studies. These programs
are designed to accommodate the needs and learning styles of working adults
who seek to enhance their academic and professional development, as well
as to those who yearn to realize a lifetime dream.
