He has lectured nationally for the AOA, taught OMM workshops to seven state societies, presented at several national conventions and uses the osteopathic approach to treating the whole person in his own practice. He completed a traditional osteopathic internship, a pediatric internship and a residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the University of Minnesota. His special interests include compression neuropathies and body, mind and spirit interaction in the healing process. |

She taught for six years at the Pikeville Osteopathic school before moving to California where she has been in practice at the Osteopathic Center for Children with Viola Frymann. She was nominated for "Outstanding Osteopathic Woman Role Model" in 2001 and received the Northrup Award in 1998 for her research in pancreatitis. She has traveled extensively internationally. |

She has most recently been providing Osteopathic Medical Care in a private practice here in New York City. |

He completed his residency in PM&R at St. Vincent's Hospital in New York City where he is a senior attending physician. He is currently in private practice providing rehabilitation medicine. He teaches at both the New York Medical College in Valhalla, NY, and Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. In addition to patient care, Dr. Goldberg is very active in medical administration having recently been elected president of the Medical Society of the State of New York, a first for an Osteopathic physician in the nation. Dr. Goldberg is assisting in the OMM department and is Chair of the PM&R department at Touro as well as the Dean of Community Affairs. |

He has clinical faculty appointments at four medical schools, is a volunteer physician for his local police and fire departments and was recognized for his volunteer work at the World Trade Center in response to the attacks of 9-11. His interests include integrative primary care, minimally invasive pain management and the history of Osteopathic Medicine. |

He provides Family Care and Osteopathic Medical Care at two offices in New Jersey. He holds clinical professor positions with four osteopathic medical schools and two allopathic medical schools. He is also a regional assistant Dean for A.T.Still University in Missouri. He has been a team physician for the US Olympic Committee, the Boston Marathon and professional sports teams. In addition he has completed a Health Policy Fellowship, worked with the governor's office in New Jersey, is a member of the AOA Board of Trustees, is an associate dean at TOUROCOM and will be a volunteer for the OMM department. |

During her residency, she presented several case studies through the department. Dr. Kooyman was selected as an OMM Fellow at NYCOM. During her family practice residency, she started an OMM clinic that quickly filled. Upon completion of her residency, she continued to provide Osteopathic care in her private practice. Dr. Varlotta has also taught anatomy and physiology at a community college. She was also one of the first trainers for a statewide program to certify child care staff in the appropriate administration of medications. |

Chairman of the Department of Family Practice Dr. Sirota earned his Doctor of Osteopathy degree from the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine in Old Westbury, New York. He fulfilled a rotating family physician internship and residency at Peninsula Hospital Center in Far Rockaway, New York, where he later served as Senior House Officer and as a staff physician. Dr. Sirota is board-certified in Family Practice. Dr Sirota is President of Sunrise Medical Associates, PC in Valley Stream, New York, where he is also a family physician. In addition, he is Chief of Family Practice and Attending Physician of LIJ/NSUH at Franklin Hospital in Valley Stream, New York. He is a health advocate and volunteer for many area community organizations. His other civic and professional activities include serving as medical and advisory board member at Franklin Hospital and Chief of the Division of Family Practice. His professional honors and recognitions include the .Outstanding in Clinical Research. Award from Sandoz Pharmaceuticals and the Certificate of Recognition from the Nassau County Legislature. |

Clinical Assistant Professor After completing 4 years of military service and Family Practice Residency, Dr. Eckstein established a family practice office while continuing to serve as a mentor and teacher. As its Coordinator of Clinical Education, he supervises and teaches at St. John's Episcopal Hospital, practicing both inpatient and outpatient family medicine. He also teaches in the emergency department at Peninsula Hospital, as well as working there as an attending emergency physician. |

![]() | Stanley Shapiro, D.O. Clinical Assistant Professor Graduated Des COMS 05/1966. Dr. Shapiro started a family practice in Howard Beach, Queens, in 1967, and has been board-certified in family medicine since 1973. After practicing for 39 years, he retired in 2007. During those years he was involved in the metamorphosis of the osteopathic profession in New York. He was active in the city's society of osteopathic physicians, serving as its treasurer and president, and participated in the formation of the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine, where he served as an assistant clinical professor for osteopathic practice and principles under Dr. Stanley Schiowitz. |

Barbara Capozzi D.O. Clinical Assistant Professor D.O., New York College of Osteopathic Medicine Board Certifications Board-Certified in Family Practice Certified Nutrition Specialist Certified Hypnotherapist Dr. Capozzi has been involved in medical education at many levels. She was a full-time faculty member at NYCOM for more than eight years, beginning her career as an instructor in family practice, teaching physical diagnosis, and serving as a preceptor for third- and fourth-year medical students. With a promotion to Assistant Professor of Family Practice, she became the course director and sole instructor for Clinical Nutrition, and was responsible for creating the curriculum, teaching, and revising the course for a period of eight years. She was also a Director of Medical Education for two years at the medical school outpatient facility. Dr. Capozzi currently teaches at Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine (Physical Diagnosis), Hofstra University's Physician Assistant Studies Program (Geriatrics and Psychosocial Medicine, and lab instruction for Physical Diagnosis I and II), and in the Nursing Department at Adelphi University (Nutrition). | |

He now serves as Medical Director for Corporate Health Services for investment banking firm Goldman Sachs and Co., where he oversees health care for some 15,000 employees. He is currently a Clinical Instructor in the Department of Medicine at NYU School of Medicine. |
Jessie Fields, D.O. Clinical Assistant Professor Medical College of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, completing her residency in Internal Medicine at the Hospital of the Medical College of Pennsylvania in 1985 Board Certifications Board Certified in Internal Medicine the same year Dr. Fields received a National Health Public Service Corps Scholarship which assigned her to work in Chicago, where she practiced medicine until 1991 to fulfill her scholarship obligation. She then relocated to New York City, initially working as a primary-care physician for the Health Insurance Plan of New York and subsequently for the 32-BJ Union Health Center in Manhattan. Dr. Fields has been affiliated with North General Hospital in Harlem, and has practiced in the Harlem community, since 1997. Since 2001, Dr. Fields has been an attending physician in Internal Medicine at St. Luke's Roosevelt Hospital in Manhattan, where she maintains a general medical practice. | |

![]() | Carl J Terranova , Ph.D. Professor and Chair Ph.D., Northwestern University Dr. Terranova is the course director for clinical anatomy and embryology, and has been involved in the development and delivery of anatomy and embryology curricula for more than 15 years. His research focuses on clinical, developmental and evolutionary aspects of the limbs of humans and other primates, typically employing biomechanical approaches to function over ontogenetic or phylogenetic time. Dr. Terranova undertakes collaborative research through his affiliation with the Department of Orthopaedics, Mt Sinai Hospital (adjunct associate professor) and the New York Consortium in Evolutionary Primatology (resource faculty). |
![]() | Rhonda L Quinn , Ph.D. Assistant Professor Ph.D. Rutgers University Dr. Quinn has trained students in clinical anatomy, embryology, and skeletal anatomy/osteology for five years. She researches how anatomical structures are integrated with skeletal tissues, from which she draws inferences about health, diet, and activity. By utilizing skeletal indicators from paleontological and archaeological populations, she reconstructs ancient human lifeways. Dr. Quinn maintains a research affiliation with Rutgers University (adjunct research associate) and collaborates with forensic anthropologists at New York University. |

He teaches in the gross anatomy laboratory, histology laboratory, and is a facilitator in the problem-based learning (PBL) course. Dr. D'Antoni's research interests are diverse and include the anatomy of the spine, epidemiology of spinal trauma, and medical education. He is currently investigating the role of mind-mapping as a learning strategy to enhance recall in medical students. Dr. D'Antoni previously taught anatomy and clinical epidemiology at the New York College of Podiatric Medicine. |

As Associate Professor of Pathology and Medicine at SUNY Downstate Medical Center, she taught medical and graduate students, residents and fellows, and directed a hospital diagnostic immunology laboratory. Dr. Nowakowski's research interests include immune system-pathogen interactions, with special focus on regulation of nitric oxide production by macrophages in human lung disease (asthma), effects of viral infections on macrophage physiology and immune functions, and systemic and local lung immunity in HIV-1 disease. |
![]() | Maya Frankfurt, Ph.D. Associate Professor, Physiology Ph.D, Mount Sinai School of Medicine, CUNY B.A. Hampshire College Dr. Frankfurt has organized and taught Physiology and Neuroscience courses for the past 20 years. Her primary research interest is in the plasticity of the adult mammalian nervous system. In addition to establishing a model of neuronal regeneration in adult rodents, she has studied effects of sex steroids and drugs on the morphology of neurons in different brain regions. Dr. Frankfurt maintains active collaborations with several colleagues at universities in the New York City metropolitan area. |
![]() | Judith Binstock, Ph.D. Associate Professor M.A., Ph.D., Biochemistry, Graduate Center of CUNY Dr Binstock's thesis work focused on studying a complex of enzymes involved in fatty acid oxidation. She has held post-doctoral fellowships in the Biochemistry departments at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine and at New York Medical College in Valhalla, New York, where she was also a research associate. There, her work primarily involved the study of cortisol metabolism and its connection to primary open-angle glaucoma. Dr. Binstock was Director of Biochemistry at the College of Podiatric Medicine in New York City and has lectured in the Biochemistry program at the Touro MS/MD Biomedical Program. She is a member of the Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Association of ASBMB, as well as an active member of IAMSE, the International Association of Medical Science Educators. Dr. Binstock's recent research publications have focused on applying DNA techniques in analyzing and diagnosing of onychomycosis. |
![]() | Deborah Williams, M.D., Ph.D. Associate Professor M.D., SUNY Downstate Medical Center PhD., New York University Dr. Williams is course director for the Histology and Problem-based learning course. She chairs a number of committees at TOUROCOM, and has served as Interim Chair of the Department of Clinical Nutrition in the School of Health Professions, Behavioral and Life Science at the New York Institute of Technology; as Assistant Professor of Pathology in the Department of Biomedical Sciences at NYCOM as Adjunct Associate Professor in the Department of Physician Assistant Studies, at NYIT and Clinical Coordinator and Co-Academic Coordinator for the hybrid-problem-based curriculum at New York College of Osteopathic Medicine; and as a lecturer in the traditional medical school systems-based curriculum. Her current research is focused on studying the in-vitro effects of phototherapy on MRSA at the School of Health Professions, Behavioral and Life Science at the New York Institute of Technology. |
![]() | David Lenihan, Ph.D. Associate Professor Ph.D., Neuroanatomy/Neurosurgery, University of Edinburgh (Scotland) Dr. Lenihan's Ph.D. dissertation, "New methods for the repair and assessment of peripheral nerve injury" produced 10 papers, and five further Ph.D. studies. It also provided supporting evidence for a biosynthetic patent using sodium glass to repair the peripheral nervous system. After his Ph.D., he was appointed the Peripheral Nerve Research Fellow at the Western General Hospital (Edinburgh), where he performed electrophysiological assessments comparing different types of injury and the success of the repair methods used. He was also awarded an FCER fellowship for outstanding contribution to the literature for his work on neuromuscular junction changes in peripheral nerve injury. As a research fellow, he was responsible for Ph.D. studentships and teaching responsibilities in the Anatomy department at the University of Edinburgh. In 2003, Dr. Lenihan moved back to the United States to do post-doctoral work at Washington University (St. Louis) in spinal cord injury. The focus of this research was the assessment of changes in the peripheral nervous system as a consequence of central nervous system damage. In 2004 he was appointed to the faculty of Logan University (Chesterfield, MO) to teach neuroanatomy. He was also awarded a research grant from the Eric Westacott Foundation to assess the bone density changes in spinal-cord-injured patients when vibration is used as treatment modality. |

![]() | Shelly Warwick, Ph.D. Director, Touro-Harlem Medical Library Ph.D. Rutgers University M.L.S. Queens College, CUNY M.F.A. Directing Program, Tulane University B.F.A. Theatre, University of Connecticut, Storrs Dr. Warwick's area of research is information policy, with a focus on intellectual property, privacy and intellectual freedom issues. Dr. Warwick served as Director of the Robert S. Morrison Library at The Hastings Center, the Russell A. Hibbs Library at the New York Orthopedic Hospital of Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center, and The Leon Ginzburg Surgical Library at Beth Israel Hospital. She has spent many years as a full-time faculty member of the Queens College (CUNY) Graduate School of Library Studies and has taught in the library programs at Rutgers and Long Island University. She is on the national Board of ASIS&T (The American Society for Information Science and Technology), an active member of ALA (American Library Association), MLA (Medical Library Association), and a contributor to the ALA publication on copyright for libraries. |

Palmer School, Long Island University M.A. Creative Writing, City College of New York, CUNY B.A. Literature, SUNY at Purchase Prior to joining the TOUROCOM library staff, William Lundmark worked for ten years in the SUNY Purchase library, beginning there as a US Government Documents Clerk and then rising through the ranks to become Cataloging Coordinator. He left that position to pursue an advanced degree in library science. While attending school, Mr. Lundmark worked part-time for the SUNY Purchase chapter of United University Professions, applying his writing and technical skills to developing and maintaining an award-winning website for that organization. |
Ana J. Felipe, M.A. Library Assistant M.A., Special Education, Touro University International B.A., Human Services, Touro College Ms. Felipe has worked for Touro College for nine years. She began as a work-study intern, soon advanced to become a full-time member of the Registrar's staff, and, for the last three years, has brought her administrative and student services skills to the Library Department. Ms. Felipe has received numerous employee-of-the month awards during her tenure at the College. | |
