Athletic Department at Touro College Continues to Grow and Expand Offerings

New York, N.Y. - The Athletic Department at Touro College, founded in 2005, continues to grow and expand its course offerings. Intramural activities and course offerings currently include weight training, women’s basketball,women’s modern dance, men’s basketball, men’s football and men’s hockey. Plans are also underway for a course in self-defense for women.
The department, under the direction of Irv Bader, a well-known and respected educator and administrator, currently offers a full complement of physical education offerings at Lander College for Women in Manhattan and Lander College for Men in Queens. Courses are also available for students from the Men’s and Women’s Division of Lander College of Arts and Sciences—Flatbush.
Mr. Bader, director of athletics and associate professor of physical education at Touro College, has been involved in physical education since 1960. He is the long-time director of Seneca Lake Camp in Honesdale, Pennsylvania and has taught and coached at a number of colleges and yeshiva high schools. He holds a master’s degree in special education and was director of adaptive physical education for the New York City Board of Education for close to 20 years.
Joining Mr. Bader in Touro’s Athletic Department are Stephanie Amos, Chad Davis, Suzanna Garbarova, Howard Furman and Evan Honigsfeld. Paul Freedman, a senior development officer in Touro’s Department of Institutional Advancement, has played an instrumental role in the creation and development of the school’s Athletic Department.
