New York, N.Y. – Touro College has announced plans for a gala 36th anniversary dinner to be held on Sunday evening, April 29, 2007 at the Sheraton New York Hotel & Towers in Manhattan. Dr. Bernard Lander and Dr. Mark and Anna Ruth Hasten will be honored that evening.

Touro College started with 35 men in rented space in midtown Manhattan in 1971. Today, more than 23,000 students are enrolled in Touro College's various undergraduate, graduate and professional programs at more than 29 campus locations throughout New York and in California, Florida and Nevada. Internationally, Touro College is educating students in Jerusalem and Moscow. Touro's educational programs, in New York and elsewhere, provide young men and women with quality educational opportunities and strengthen the communities where they are located.

Touro recently announced the opening of the Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine in Harlem, New York's first new medical school in nearly 30 years, and is making preparations for the founding of its fourth medical school, to be located in New Jersey. Students are enjoying their first full semester in the new campus of the Lander College for Women on Amsterdam Avenue and 60th Street on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. And just last month classes began at the new campus of Touro College Jacob D. Fuchsberg Law Center in Central Islip.

Dr. Bernard Lander, president and founder of Touro College, will be honored at the dinner for his phenomenal leadership and vision, for his remarkable and historic role in the advancement of education in the United States and abroad, and for his remarkable contributions to the building of yiddishkeit and the Jewish people. Dr. Lander has, with boundless energy and passion, developed the College into the successful and important international educational institution that it is today.

Dr. Mark and Anna Ruth Hasten will also be honored at the 36th anniversary dinner. Dr. Hasten has served as the chairman of Touro's board of trustees and board of overseers and has been a partner in the incredible growth and success of Touro College. The Hastens, of Indianapolis, Indiana, will be honored for their leadership gift to Touro College.
