Oral Wegovy: What to Know Before Starting the New Weight Loss Pill

Is the New Wegovy Pill Right for You? A Pharmacotherapy Specialist Breaks Down the Facts.

The Food and Drug Administration approved the once-daily Wegovy pill this past December for chronic weight management in adults with obesity, or those who are overweight with at least one weight-related medical condition. The pill contains semaglutide, the same active ingredient as the injectable version of Wegovy. Unlike the weekly injection, oral Wegovy is taken by mouth every morning; like the injectable, oral Wegovy requires a prescription and careful monitoring.
