Adjunct history and sociology professor Ira Weinstock has long been interested in a more hands-on learning experience. In elementary school, his teacher told him that everyone in New York had his own tree. It was a bold claim, so young Weinstock wrote the park service demanding to know which one was his. He was surprised when the well-meaning park service sent a whimsical letter stating that his tree was the third from the giraffe enclosure at the Bronx Zoo. Yet, unfazed, he gathered paper, a marker, a hammer and nails and asked his mother to take him to the zoo where he proceeded to nail his name to the tree.

The 39th Annual Commencement Ceremonies for the New York School of Career and Applied Studies (NYSCAS) Brooklyn Campuses was held at Walt Whitman Hall in Brooklyn College’s Center for the Performing Arts on June 10, 2013 at 7:00 pm.  The keynote speaker for the event was Governor David Paterson.  Three-hundred sixty-one baccalaureate candidates and 259 associate candidates graduated from the division of Touro College in the ceremony.

New York, N.Y. – Joy. Excitement. Accomplishment. Those were the three most prominent sentiments at the 40th Commencement ceremonies of Touro College’s New York School of Career and Applied Studies (NYSCAS) held at the Walt Whitman Theater in Brooklyn. Between the Manhattan and Brooklyn campuses, NYSCAS awarded 695 bachelor’s degrees and 451 associate’s degrees.

The 39th Annual Commencement Ceremonies for New York School of Career and Applied Studies\' (NYSCAS) Midtown Campus was held on June 12, 2013 at 6:30 p.m. in Avery Fischer Hall at Lincoln Center.   The keynote speaker for the event was Dr. Jeffrey Gardere, a well-known media personality and clinical psychologist who is also Assistant Professor of Behavioral Medicine at Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine in Harlem (TouroCOM).  Two hundred eighty-three baccalaureate candidates, 162 associate candidates, and 54 candidates for certificates in Digital Media Arts graduated from the NYSCAS division of Touro College in the ceremony.

June 27, 2013 – In a festive and intimate celebration, 14 students from Touro College’s Lander College of Arts & Sciences (LAS), Lander College for Women (LCW), Lander College for Men (LCM), and New York School of Career and Applied Studies (NYSCAS) were inducted into the college’s chapter of Phi Alpha Theta, an honor society for those studying history.
