Central Islip, N.Y. – Dean Patricia Salkin is pleased to announce that Edward A. Dauer has been named the Inaugural Kermit A. Gitenstein Distinguished Visiting Professor of Health Law & Policy. He will begin in Spring 2014, teaching in the classroom, delivering public lectures and participating fully in the faculty and student life at Touro Law.

In her new role, she will provide leadership and training on matters relating to valuing diversity and cultural competence, and she will assist the dean in guiding the development and implementation of a comprehensive plan focused on embedding effective diversity and inclusion practices for the law school. Edwards-O’Neal will continue in her role as Senior Director of Career Services as well.

In this new role, Professor Miller will provide support to the existing Touro Law post-graduate incubator, continue to develop Touro Law’s hands-on solo & small practice concentration and develop synergies between the incubator and the concentration curriculum.

Central Islip, N.Y. - The North Shore-LIJ Health System’s Foundation and Law & Psychiatry Institute have established a $200,000 endowment to fund a scholarship and summer fellowship program that will focus on educating students at the Touro Law Center on the legal challenges facing veterans. The endowment is named in honor of Sol Wachtler, a life trustee of the North Shore-LIJ Health System, former chief judge of the New York State Court of Appeals, a longtime member of the Touro Law Center’s Board of Governors and a Korean War Army veteran.

Central Islip, N.Y. – Touro Law Center’s Aging and Longevity Law Institute (ALLI) held a conference on Monday, October 7 that identified a growing capacity crisis amongst our nation’s seniors. The conference “The Capacity Crisis, What Lawyers Need to Know and Do for Their Clients, the Public and Themselves” brought together experts, including members of the academy, bar and bench, and addressed the role of the legal profession to recognize and address America’s capacity crisis. The innovative and unprecedented program began the process of educating the legal community and helped facilitate a national dialogue as to why society, including the legal profession, must address the capacity crisis.
