Central Islip, N.Y. – Touro Law Dean Patricia Salkin is pleased to announce that Erica Edwards-O’Neal has been appointed Director of Diversity and Inclusion. In her new role, she will provide leadership and training on matters relating to valuing diversity and cultural competence, and she will assist the dean in guiding the development and implementation of a comprehensive plan focused on embedding effective diversity and inclusion practices for the law school. Edwards-O’Neal will continue in her role as Senior Director of Career Services as well.

New York, N.Y. – Dr. Alan Kadish, president and CEO of the Touro College and University System, today announced that Dr. Zvi Loewy, professor and chair of the Department of Pharmaceutical and Biomedical Sciences at Touro College of Pharmacy, will serve as the school’s interim dean. Dr. Loewy succeeds Dr. Stuart Feldman, who stepped down last week.

Statistics tell the story: For the past decade, flu and pneumonia have been among the top three causes of death in New York City. In the predominantly minority low-income areas of Central and East Harlem, fewer than 40 percent of residents 50 years and older have been vaccinated for pneumonia -- far short of the national goal of 90 percent for seniors. In high-poverty areas like Harlem, rates of serious pneumococcal disease, including pneumonia, meningitis, and sepsis, are almost 50 percent higher than national estimates, and more than double the rates found in more affluent New York City neighborhoods.
