Central Islip, NY –Touro Law Center is pleased to announce two newly created $25,000 scholarships for Touro Law students: the Tsunis Family Scholarship which will support students interested in land use and/or real estate law and the Joseph M. Marger ’89 Scholarship which will support students interested in corporate or business law. These endowed scholarships add to more than $1M in new student scholarships raised over the past year, including four in the past six weeks.

Central Islip, N.Y. – Touro Law Center Dean Patricia Salkin is pleased to announce that third-year student Monsurat Abedbanjo has been named a 2015 Ruth Whitehead Whaley Scholarship Recipient by the Association of Black Women Attorneys. Monsurat is one of only two law students to receive this honor.

Central Islip, NY – Touro Law 1L student Rebekah Gordon has been named National Director of Membership for the National Black Law Students Association (NBLSA) for 2016-2017 academic year. In this position, Ms. Gordon will work to reactivate inactive chapters and establish contact at law schools that do not have NBLSA chapters as well as distribute information about the membership process and compile statistics about approximately 200 chapters to make them available for the National Executive Board.

Central Islip, NY - Touro Law Center’s 22nd Annual Goods and Services Auction, held on March 16th at the law school, raised a total of $84,000. All proceeds from the auction benefit Touro Law’s Public Interest Law Fellowship Program, awarding stipends to students who are dedicated to helping others through public service work during the summer. In addition, nine attorneys were honored for their dedication to public interest and pro bono work through the Public Interest Attorney of the Year Recognition Program, led by auction co-chair Lois Schlissel, Esq., managing partner of Meyer, Suozzi, English, Klein, P.C.

Central Islip, NY –Joan Foley, Touro Law Center’s Kermit Gitenstein Distinguished Professor of Health Law & Policy, has been elected as the Vice-President of the Federal Bar Association – Eastern District of New York Chapter Board by the membership. Additionally, third year student Julia Castore has been named the law student honorary member to the Board.

Central Islip, NY – The Touro College & University System today announced that Harry Ballan will join Touro College Jacob D. Fuchsberg Law Center as its new Dean. Ballan previously served as a partner and senior counsel for the New York office of the international law firm Davis Polk & Wardwell LLP. Ballan received a bachelor of arts, master of arts, and a Ph.D. in history and theory of music—all from Yale University. Ballan attended Columbia Law School and was awarded his J.D. in 1992.
