Application Process for Continuing and New Students
Applying for financial aid, which must be done annually, can be simplified by following the steps below. Please note that you must also be registered before aid can be processed.
Step 1: File your Federal Income Tax Return
Complete your 2007 federal income tax return. If you are married and did not file jointly, your spouse's income information is also required. If you are not required to file a federal tax return, you must complete a Statement of Non-Filing which you will report any income or benefits received in 2007. This form can be found under Financial Aid Forms.
Step 2: Apply for a PIN (Personal Identification Number)
Apply for a Personal Identification Number (PIN) at www.PIN.ed.gov. This will allow you to sign your FAFSA application electronically. If you already have a PIN, you do not need to re-apply for another.
Step 3: Fill out a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on or after January 1st
Complete the 2008-2009 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) online at www.FAFSA.ed.gov. Make sure to select school code 010142 (Touro College - New York).
Step 4: Review your Student Aid Report (SAR) for errors
When you receive your Student Aid Report (SAR), please make any corrections that might be needed. Provide the Financial Aid Office any required documentation as indicated on your SAR. For example: citizenship or verification documentation.
Step 5: Review the Cost of Attendance (COA)
Review the COA to determine how much loans you will need to apply for.
Step 6: Complete the Financial Aid Packet & Student Loan Request Statement
Students interested in taking out Federal Student Loans should complete a Student Loan Request Statement and Student Financial Aid Packet. These forms can be found under Financial Aid Forms.
Step 7: Sign Electronic Master Promissory Note (eMPN)
If you are selecting a new lender or are a first time borrower at TOURO COLLEGE, you must go online and e-sign an eMPN with your lender in order for your funds to disburse.
Step 8: Take the Entrance Test.
First time Federal Stafford Loan borrowers at TOURO COLLEGE need to take the Entrance Test. The Entrance test is an online tutorial that teaches students about their rights and responsibilities as loan borrowers.
Step 9: If needed, apply for a Federal Grad Plus or Private/Alternative Loan
Students must apply directly with their chosen lender for a Grad Plus or Private/Alternative loan for the amount referenced on your COA. Make sure to select Touro College (code 010142-00) for this process.
Step 10: Sign and return Award Letter
You will receive an Award Letter after your loan/aid has been processed. Please review the Award Letter carefully and make any modifications that may be necessary. Then sign and return it to the financial aid office.
Note: Loan funds will be disbursed directly to the college. Any anticipated refund of aid will be distributed by the bursar's office after satisfactory enrollment and academic progress has been verified. The bursar can be contacted at (212) 463-0400, ext 624. |
