ADMISSION PROCESS

Applications for admission must be submitted through PharmCAS at www.pharmcas.org.  The PharmCAS site contains information necessary to make application, and details the admission requirements described below.  The Supplemental Application [hyperlink] must also be filed with the Touro College of Pharmacy Office of Student Affairs.  If you still have admissions questions after reviewing the PharmCAS instructions or these web pages, please leave a message for the Office of Student Affairs at (212) 851-1192 extension 2532 or by e-mail at info.pharmacy@touro.edu.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

·      Baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution by the end of academic year prior to   the year to which you are applying (e.g., by May-June 2010 for Fall 2010 admission).  US citizens with foreign degrees should review the International candidate information section for relevance in the application process.

·       Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75.  Candidates who qualify for interviews typically have GPAs greater than 2.75.

·       The Pharmacy College Admission Test, PCAT (www.pcatweb.info) is required of all       candidates. PCAT scores must be no more than two (2) years old.

·       The following pre-requisite coursework must have been completed with a grade of “C” or better and no longer than ten (10) years prior to applying:

General inorganic chemistry with lab

8 semester hours

Organic chemistry with lab

8 semester hours

Biochemistry

3-4 semester hours

Biology with lab

8 semester hours

Human anatomy with lab

3-4 semester hours

Physiology with lab

3-4 semester hours

OR combined Anatomy & Physiology I & II

6-8 semester hours

Microbiology with lab

4 semester hours

Calculus

3-4 semester hours

Microeconomics

3-4 semester hours

Statistics with biostatistics preferred

·         Review of applications will begin after the deadline (see below) and selected students meeting our requirements will be invited for an on-campus interview.  An interview is mandatory for admission to the College of Pharmacy.  Not all interviewed candidates are accepted.

·         The timetable below applies to the application process for the 2010-2011 academic year, and is followed strictly.

o   January 5, 2010:  Deadline for filing your entire application with transcript to PharmCAS.  All test score requests should be submitted to testing organizations for sending to PharmCAS by this date also; this typically refers to PCAT, TOEFL, and TSE. 

o   January 12, 2010:  Deadline for filing your Supplemental application with the $50 application fee to the Touro College of Pharmacy.  All Supplemental Applications must be received in the Office of Student Affairs no later than January 12, 2010.

o   February, 2010:  On-campus interviews held.

o   Two weeks after close of interviews:  Acceptance letters sent out to potential students via e-mail.

o   Ten (10) days after offer made:  Deadline for responding to acceptance letter via e-mail.

o   April 15, 2010:  Deposit to hold place in class must be received by the Office of Student Affairs, Touro College of Pharmacy.

·         A criminal background check is mandatory for admission to the College of Pharmacy.  Failure to pass the background check may result in rejection of your application.  All offers made to successful applicants are contingent upon the results of this background check.

International candidate information

Applications are accepted from U.S. permanent residents and other foreign residents, including Canadian residents, who are considered international students and are subject to the policies and procedures described below. Candidates follow the same application procedure, and meet the same requirements, as U.S-trained applicants (see above).

Graduates of foreign pharmacy colleges/schools/faculties, no matter the degree received, must complete the entire four-year program at the Touro college of Pharmacy in order to earn the doctor of pharmacy degree.

It is the responsibility of foreign-trained candidates to have their transcripts evaluated by one of the PharmCAS-accepted credential evaluation services listed below: This report should be submitted with the candidate’s other application documents.

Candidates whose native language is not English, or who attended an undergraduate program where English was not the language in which courses were taught, must submit results of the Test of English as a Foreign Language, TOEFL (www.ets.org/toefl).  TOEFL results should be sent to Touro College, using institution code 2902, Touro College.  TOEFL scores must be no more than two (2) years old. TOEFL score requirements are as follows:

a.       Applicants with TOEFL scores of 600 and above on the paper-based test, 250 and above on the    computer-based test, or 100 and above on the Internet-based test, are eligible for admission to the Touro College of Pharmacy.

b.      Applicants with TOEFL scores below 550 on the paper-based test, 213 on the computer-based test, or 73 on the Internet-based test cannot be considered for admission.

c.       Applicants with TOEFL scores below 600 on the paper-based test, below 250 on the computer-based test, or below 100 on the Internet-based test, but at or above the minimum scores indicated in item b., are required to complete the Test of Spoken English (TSE) with a score of 40 or better to be considered for admission.  Information on the TSE can be found at www.ets.org/tse/.

Candidates recommended for admission who have requested F1 or J1 visa status must be issued an I-20 form, which requires them to complete an affidavit of support, including a financial statement, showing evidence of adequate support to cover the costs of one full year of study at the Touro College of Pharmacy.  For further information, please contact Touro’s Designated School Official (DSO), Mr. Edward Schabes, Registrar for Data Management, at 27-33 West 23rd Street, Room 204, New York, NY   10010, Tel.  Exceptions to Admissions policies may be made at the discretion of the Assistant Dean of Student Affairs.

 

Supplemental Application

This application must be completed and submitted to the Office of Student Affairs at Touro College of Pharmacy, as detailed on the application.  Only typed or computer-generated applications will be accepted; all others will be rejected.  The supplemental application, along with the non-refundable $50 application fee, must be received in the Office of Student Affairs by January 12, 2010.  The PDF version of this application is provided in typewriter mode to allow you to enter your answers directly via computer keyboard.  If you have problems, save the PDF document in Word® and complete: Touro College of Pharmacy Supplemental Application.
