Orthopedic Physical Therapy Residency Program
for
CERTIFICATION IN
ADVANCED ORTHOPEDIC
PHYSICAL THERAPY
Fall and Spring Admission
The Orthopedic Physical Therapy Residency program (OPTR) at Touro College will provide the physical therapist the opportunity to advance their skills in the area of orthopedic physical therapy. The Residency curriculum
is designed to be completed within one calendar year, while maintaining your present employment, and with minimal travel required. Certification will be awarded by Touro College following the guidelines of the APTA at completion of the OPTR program. The program
prepares the resident for the Orthopedic Certified Specialty exam (OCS).
Curriculum
The Orthopedic Physical Therapy Residency program provides a structured curriculum that facilitates the residents learning experience through:
- Clinical courses are presented in a continuing education format condensed into 2-2 week modules that are augmented by online learning. Some courses are available at locations across the country.
- Clinical mentoring via distance learning format at your present place of employment.
- Supervised clinical residencies that involve 150 hours of guided clinical practice with expert clinicians at facilities across the country.
Our educational philosophy is based on a commitment to excellence in clinical practice and directed by the "Description of Specialty Practice" published by the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties in 2001 for an Orthopedic
Certified Specialist.
