SHS: Occupational Therapy
Tuition, Fees and Expenses
The majority of students attend the OT Program on a full-time basis. This requires a
major commitment of both time and resources. The Touro College Board of Trustees reserves
the right to change the tuition and fee schedules of all programs without prior written
notice - be certain to obtain updated tuition and fee information at the time of your
inquiry. The current tuition and fees, established for the 2002 - 2003 Academic year is as
follows:
| Full-time tuition per annum (12 or more credits) |

Estimated Annual Expenses
Annual personal expenses for books, travel to school
and fieldwork assignments, housing, food, uniforms, supplies, and other items will vary
greatly from individual to individual. All OT students are required to carry both
malpractice and health insurance throughout the entire program. Travel plus room and board
for fieldwork assignments will also affect student costs. Students are
encouraged to meet with the Financial Aid Counselor early in the application process to
plan for these expenses. Annual expenses for a dependent commuting student are estimated
as follows for 1999-2001:
| Tuition and fees |
18,140 |
| Maintenance at home and transportation |
5,000 |
| Books and supplies |
1,200 |
| Personal expenses |
2,500 |
| Lunches |
2,000 |
| Uniforms, malpractice insurance, etc. |
300 |
| TOTAL EST. COSTS |
29,140 |
Fieldwork Level II Expenses
Included above are typical expenses for a student
taking "local fieldwork". Students should expect to incur additional expenses
for "out of town fieldwork". All students should anticipate going out of town
for Level II Fieldwork.
Last/Third Year Expenses
Students ready for graduation from either the BS/MS
or the OTA programs should anticipate expenses up to $1,000 in order to cover such items
as: graduation fee, licensure applications and fees, certification examination fees, and
Thesis expenses (BS/MS only).
Financial Resources for OT Students
In addition to the scholarships,
loans, and work opportunities listed for the School of Health Sciences, there are some
funding sources available specifically for OT students. The department maintains a file on
these resources, which is available to students. Included among these are:
- Scholarships from state and local Occupational Therapy Associations
American Occupational Therapy Foundation (AOTF) scholarships
- The E. K. Wise Loan Fund of the AOTF
- American Business Clubs (AMBUCS) OT and PT scholarships
- DAR OT scholarships
- Loanships from the New York City Public Schools and several private health-care providers
Requirements, filing deadlines, and award amounts for these monies vary
widely. Students are advised to file a Financial Aid Form (FAF) and investigate these
sources early in the application process. Individuals currently employed by health-care
agencies, or residing in geographic areas where great shortages of occupational therapists
exist, may also wish to approach local providers personally with a plan for educational
sponsorship in exchange for returning to work in the sponsoring agency.
