Students who plan to apply to schools of dentistry, medicine, optometry, and osteopathy typically major in a natural science (e.g., biology) or social science (e.g., psychology). Students should complete the pre-dental sequence in order to be prepared for the Dental Admission Test (DAT) or the Medical College Admission Test (MCAT).
Additionally, the Touro College of Dental Medicine (TCDM) offers the Pre-Dental Experience: a 4-day program designed to introduce undergraduate students to the world of dentistry. Led by TCDM faculty, you will learn about your dental career options, experience hands-on lab exercises, and see the latest in digital dentistry technology in an intimate setting. You’ll have the opportunity to meet students at TCDM, tour our state-of-the-art clinic, and gain a sneak peek into life as a TCDM dental student. This informative week can help you explore the field of dentistry to help you decide if this is the career path you have been dreaming of!
In 2016, TCDM became the first dental school to open in New York State in nearly 50 years. Combining cutting-edge technology with an academic environment that is rigorous, engaging, and vibrant, TCDM is preparing the next generation of dentists for rewarding careers in a demanding field.
Students begin their training at TCDM’s state-of-the-art simulation laboratory and then transition to provide patient care at Touro Dental Health, the college’s modern, 32,000-square-foot dental training facility. TCDM students, under the supervision of experienced faculty, receive hands-on training while providing comprehensive oral healthcare to adults and children — including patients who may not otherwise be able to afford necessary dental care.
Graduates can pursue careers in numerous specialties, including hospital dentistry, research, public health dentistry, private practice, international healthcare, and more.
