Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Who do we contact for core rotation changes, and who for elective rotation approvals?
A: The student coordinator for your class should be the first point of contact for your class. It is Jedaiah Cohen for 2013 and Elkay Jose for 2012. The student coordinator collects all paperwork and submits to the Clinical Dean for review.
Q: To get an elective rotation approved, what do we need besides the elective request form?
A: The school only requires the elective request form, however, many hospitals require their own paperwork to be filled out by both the student and the school. Please submit these additional documents to the student coordinator along with the school's elective request form.
Q: For 4th year core rotations, are they required to be at Touro hospitals that have 3rd year cores, any hospital we have an affiliation with, or any hospital?
A: Core rotations, both 3rd and 4th year, must be complete at a Touro affiliated core hospital. Electives and subspecialties may be done at non-Touro affiliated sites.
Q: To set up an elective or sub-internship rotation at a hospital or clinic that doesn't have a residency/educational program, what are the requirements?
A: Submit an elective request form to the student coordinator. The procedure to set up electives, whether they are at hospitals with or without residency programs, is the same.
Q: How long should it take to get an approval for an elective request or rotation change? When should we contact Touro again?
A: Ten days
Q: Is there a list of who we can contact at each site to find out more information about our rotation (ie: The Bridge).
A: Contacts for all Touro core affiliated sites are available. Please check with your student coordinator.
Q: Are 4th year sub-interships required to be done at core hospitals?
A: Yes
Q: Can an OMM rotation qualify for Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, or only as an elective? How about a sub-internship?
A: OMM will only qualify as an elective
Q: Can a grid be made and put up on the rotations section of the website that lists most electives out there and what they would potentially qualify as for the various 4th year requirements?
A: Yes, the Clinical Education Department will be compiling a brief list of common electives other students have completed.
Q: When do we find out Touro's complete list of rotations?
A: When the Clinical Education Department releases the girds for both third and fourth year rotations, you will be able to review all affiliated core sites. This occurs at the beginning of the Spring Semester.
Q: When do we submit our rankings of preferred rotations?
A: A lottery will be held to determine the order in which students pick their rotation line on the grids. This will take place at the beginning of the Spring Semester.
Q: All of our rotations will be at 1 hospital, right?
A: No, you may be sent to two or more hospitals due to certain sites not having specific rotations (e.g. if Hospital A does not offer an Ob/Gyn rotation, you will be sent to Hospital B to fullfill this core rotation requirement for your third year).
Q: As a second year, what things should be doing for rotations? How can we find out which rotation sites are better suited for us?
A: Pass all pre-clinical courses, study and prepare well for the boards, and check hospital websites for information
Q: Many of the electives for 4th year require months in advance to set it up. There is great thought that needs to be put into which rotation to take and when. When will we be able to select our schedule for next year?
A: The Clinical Education Department is aware that electives should be set up months in advance and will be offering the fourth year grid at the beginning of the Spring Semester. Although we understand that students are eager to set-up electives for their fourth year, please be advised that hospitals do not start scheduling students in their hospitals so many months in advance.
