Touro University Welcomes Benjamin Lowenthal as New Chief Financial Officer

Veteran Higher Education Finance Executive Brings 35 Years of Leadership Experience to Touro University, Strengthening Financial Strategy and Supporting Institutional Growth

Benjamin Lowenthal (right) will officially join Touro as CFO in November, and will work closely with long-time CFO Mel Ness (left) during a two-month transition period.

Benjamin Lowenthal was appointed Chief Financial Officer for Touro University, Dr. Alan Kadish, Touro President, announced today. A seasoned leader with 35 years of experience in the world of higher education finance, Lowenthal most recently served as Senior Vice President for Administration & Finance and Chief Fiscal Officer at Towson University in Baltimore, Maryland. His previous roles include Associate Vice President of Financial Services at the University of Maryland Baltimore County and Assistant Vice President of Finance at University of Maryland Global Campus.

At Towson, Lowenthal oversaw the university’s financial, technological, and physical resources, managing a $650 million operating budget and a $700 million capital construction plan. Since 2018, he has led efforts to simplify, standardize, and automate business processes, including the implementation of a new financial system and a revised budget process.

Lowenthal is a Certified Public Accountant who earned his MBA in Finance from the University of Baltimore. He also studied at Ner Israel Rabbinical College as he pursued his baccalaureate and graduate degrees.

Lowenthal will officially join Touro in November, and will work closely with long-time Touro CFO Mel Ness during a two-month transition period before assuming full responsibilities as CFO in January.
