Frank Gardner, PhD, ABPP, is the Executive Director of the PsyD program in clinical psychology, health emphasis, and professor of psychology and associate dean of the School of Health Sciences of Touro College. He is Professor of Behavioral Medicine at the Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine. He received his Ph.D. in clinical and school psychology from Hofstra University, is a licensed psychologist in the State of New York, is a board-certified clinical psychologist, and a Fellow of the Association of Cognitive and Behavioral Therapy. Dr. Gardner was the founding editor of the Journal of Clinical Sports Psychology and has consulted with high-level professionals in professional sports, business, the military, and the performing arts. He is an expert in sport and performance psychology and has been a consultant for professional teams in Major League Baseball, the National Hockey League and the National Basketball Association. He has previous experience leading two PsyD programs, including the attainment of APA accreditation for those programs.
An Exploration of the Mediators Between Childhood Maltreatment and Intimate Partner Violence
When trying to understand the etiology of interpersonal violence we sought to understand if childhood maltreatment alone was predictive of interpersonal violence or what other variables may contribute. We found that difficulties in emotion regulation significantly mediated the relationship between childhood maltreatment and physical aggression within the sample, meaning that difficulties in emotion regulation was the critical predictor of such violence.
