New York, N.Y. - Dr. Sabra Brock, interim dean of the Graduate School of Business (GSB) at Touro College in New York City, was named a 2014 honoree at the 12th Annual Top Woman in Business Awards and Networking event  sponsored by The Queens Courier.

The event, held at Terrace on the Park in Flushing Meadows Park, celebrated women with careers in finance, healthcare, education, and entrepreneurship whose major achievements and participation in the Queens community has helped the borough grow. Brock was pleased to have received the award and felt it would raise awareness about the educational opportunities that the Touro Graduate School of Business provides to students who live in and around Queens.

“Being named ‘top’ in your field is always an honor,” said Dr. Brock.  “I've worked in business my whole adult life.  A number of our students live in Queens and we would like to have more.  As per the Touro College mission statement, we are particularly proud that many of our students come from underserved communities.  The ethnic/nationality profile of Queens is a good match to our student body, which comes from diverse cultural and educational backgrounds,” she said.

Close to 1,000 people attended the event, which honored the work of more than 30 women.  Greg Kelly, co-anchor of Fox 5’s “Good Day New York,” was a presenter, along with “Ms. New York United States 2013” -  Stephanie Jill Chernick. Proceeds raised during the evening’s celebration were donated to charity.

Victoria Schneps-Yunis, chief executive officer of The Courier, said she was “thrilled” that Dr. Brock was an honoree. “With the glass ceiling tough to break through, our Top Woman in Business has achieved a crack in that ceiling by being appointed to Touro as a dean,” she said, addingHer leadership will add to the prestige and quality that is Touro.”

Dr. Brock joined Touro as a professor at its New York School of Career and Applied Studies (NYSCAS) in June 2007 and was named interim dean of the GSB in 2012. Her notable accomplishments since joining the business school include the introduction of a new career center; re-launching the master’s degree program in accounting; increasing inter- and intra-school communication and collaboration; and creating higher visibility for the GSB with programs such as monthly open houses. Under her tenure, the school has increased its enrollment by more than nine percent and the diversity of its faculty by 30 percent.

Dr. Brock received her Ph.D. in business education from New York University and a master’s degree in advertising from Northwestern University. Her research interests include collaborative learning in business schools and the workplace, cross-cultural teaching, and managing change through transformative learning. She has been widely published in scholarly journals. Her most recent book, “At the Intersection of Communication, Marketing and Transformation,” was published in 2013. She also writes on gender relationships. Her book, “Men Head East, Women Turn Right” has been translated into five languages and converted to an eBook under the title: “I Say This, You Say That.” Writing mystery novels is a hobby for Dr. Brock, and she has published several under a pseudonym in collaboration with colleagues.

Prior to entering academia, Dr. Brock held global leadership positions at Citicorp, Colgate-Palmolive, DuPont and Young & Rubicam, as well as at various entrepreneurial ventures.
