Touro Law Hires Assistant Director of Bar Programs and Academic Development

Central Islip, N.Y. – Touro Law Center Dean Patricia Salkin is pleased to announce the appointment of Cynara Hermes McQuillan as the Assistant Director of Bar Programs and Academic Development. In this role, McQuillan will work with students on an individual basis, coordinate and provide skills training workshops, develop student learning materials, coordinate and teach bar-preparation programs and implement new services relevant to enhancing the academic experience for Touro Law students.

“Cynara brings significant experience in law teaching and working individually with law students to help prepare them for the bar exam and teaching skills necessary for the practice of law,” said Dean Salkin. “She is a welcome addition to our team and we are all excited about the positive impact she will have on our students and programs.”

Cynara Hermes McQuillan has experience teaching in the areas of legal writing, academic support and professional skills.  Professor McQuillan was an Associate Professor of Law at New York Law School teaching Legal Practice, Principles of Legal Analysis and Introduction to American Law. Her teaching interests include legal method, legal writing, academic support, and bar exam preparation. Prior to NYLS, Professor McQuillan worked at St. John’s University School of Law as an adjunct professor of law and as a fellow in the Ronald H. Brown Center for Civil Rights and Economic Development. As an adjunct, she taught a seminar course, Interviewing and Counseling, in which she introduced students to interviewing, counseling, and negotiation skills through the use of simulations and collaborative exercises. As a fellow, she advised undergraduate and law students regarding the legal profession, law school applications, exams, and curriculum. Professor McQuillan started her legal career as a litigation associate at Proskauer Rose LLP, where she worked on general commercial litigation in both state and federal courts, represented clients in corporate defense and investigations, and worked on human rights and immigration cases.

Touro Law offers a rich Academic Development program for all students including workshops, individual tutorials, study skills training, exam preparation and bar exam workshops and training. The department is headed by Director and Professor of Law Suzanne Darrow-Kleinhaus.
