Central Islip, N.Y. – Touro Law Dean Patricia Salkin is pleased to announce that Professor Gary Shaw will serve as the Interim Director of the Center for Innovation in Business, Law & Technology (IBLT).

Dean Salkin stated, “Gary has a long tradition of serving the Touro Law community and has contributed much to this law school. I am grateful that he will lend his leadership and strategic planning skill to the IBLT and expect the Center will flourish under his guidance.”

Shaw played a major role in the development of the IBLT fifteen years ago. The Center was created at Touro Law to address the potential legal implications that technology was having on society including new legal issues that would arise from the spread of the internet and broader issues. Today, the Center is dedicated to ensuring that tomorrow’s lawyers understand both the opportunities and the risks that technology brings to the business world, in order to help their clients manage the risks, maximize the opportunities and thus promote strong economic growth and development.

“Touro Law has always been committed to innovation in the law, both in practice and in legal education. Having a Center specifically devoted to technology integrated into the curriculum is crucial to maintaining this commitment,” said Shaw. “I am proud to serve as interim director as we explore new directions to make the IBLT most effective for the Law Center as well as the community.”

The IBLT has an advisory board comprised of leading entrepreneurs, attorneys and technologists from Long Island’s vibrant business community. Among other activities and responsibilities, the Center oversees business technology law student externships, hosts and sponsors various conferences and guests speakers and administers IBLT Entrepreneurship Initiative Fellows.
