Faculty and alumni from Touro College contributed their expertise in job searching and career development at the 2015 Parnassah Expo Nationwide Business Networking Event, sponsored by the Orthodox Jewish Chamber of Commerce. The event was held at the Edison Convention and Exposition Center in Edison, N.J. March 17 and 18.

From web design to window shades, real estate to communication technology, 200 organizations from across the U.S., Canada, Israel, and Europe met for two days of robust networking and information exchange. Noteworthy speakers and CEOs with backgrounds in business, marketing, management, branding, finance, and public relations were on hand, as were several representatives from Touro College & University System.

Touro’s administrative experts

Touro’s Director of Career Services, Ron Ansel, offered valuable career advice as a panelist discussing "Contemporary Employment Topics.” Assistant Director of Career Services, Chaim Shapiro, gave a workshop called "LinkedIn 101: Mastering the Basics of this Business Social Media Platform,” and both Ansel and Shapiro held private career counseling and resume review sessions for job seekers.

From Touro Career Services, Program Coordinator Faigie Horowitz moderated a panel called “Ready, Set, Go: Strategies for Planning and Pursuing Your Career,” that featured Dr. Ditza Berger, of the Dept. of Guidance and Wellness at Lander College for Women. Admissions representatives from the Lander Colleges were also at the trade show.

Touro alumni

Touro alumni Nechama Basser, Director of Product Delivery and Strategy at American Express; and Rivka Sender, a senior manager at KPMG, served on the panel, "Frum Women in the Workplace: Secrets for Success and Perspective," and Chaya Appel-Fishman, founder and president of the Jewish Woman Entrepreneur, was the moderator.

Another Touro alumna, Tova Herskovitz, LCW, serves as the coordinator of the Women in the Workforce division of the Parnassah Expo group of services, and alumna Chani Jacobowitz, MSW, Director of Government Affairs at Beth Medrash Govoha, was a panelist on the forum titled, "A Career for the Klal: Working in Jewish Nonprofits."

There were job boards and workshops on how to improve interviewing skills, and by all accounts the two-day trade show was a big success. “The speakers and topics on the program offered business people as well as career changers, educated advice and perspective from experts in the field,” said Horowitz.

In a letter about the trade show, President Obama commended the organizers of Parnassah Expo, “for bringing businesses together and providing a platform that highlights opportunities, employment, and collaboration for women and men in the Jewish community.”
