Touro University California (TUC) is helping to bring awareness of this pressing health issue by hosting nationally recognized award-winning science and health journalist Gary Taubes at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, April 24^th, in TUC’s Lander Hall A.

Sponsored by TUC’s College of Osteopathic Medicine Research Department and the Office of Sponsored Programs, Mr. Taubes will be the Keynote Speaker for the University’s “12^th Annual Research Day” event.

Mr. Taubes is a contributing correspondent to the journal “Science,” author of “Why we Get Fat and What to do About It,” and co-founder of the non-profit “Nutrition Science Initiative.” He is the recipient of a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Independent Investigator Award in Health Policy Research, and has won numerous other awards for his journalism. These include the International Health Reporting Award from the Pan American Health Organization and the National Association of Science Writers Science in Society Journalism Award, which he won in 1996, 1999 and 2001. (He is the only print journalist to win this award three times.)

The “12^th Annual Research Day” is a campus-wide event that includes new research and unpublished work from faculty, residents, post doctoral fellows and students from all programs at TUC.

Three of Touro’s post doctoral fellows will showcase their achievements in oral presentations and one faculty member from each college/program will summarize their research in a second set of oral presentations.

Participants will enjoy ample time for discussion in an extended poster session and reception with wine and hors d’oeuvres to finish the day.

The day’s event is free and begins at noon in TUC’s Lander Hall A. The Poster Session and Reception begins at 3 p.m. inside Touro’s Farragut Inn Ballroom (1750 Club Drive, Vallejo, CA).
