The 2013 graduating students represent 137 from the College of Osteopathic Medicine (Doctoral Degree); 103 from the College of Pharmacy (Doctoral Degree); 89 from the Master of Public Health Program; 65 from the Graduate School of Education (Master’s Degree); 43 from the Physician’s Assistant Program (Master’s Degree); 16 from the Master of Science in Medical Health Sciences; and 10 from the Master of Science in Medical Health Science in Pharmaceutical Sciences.

Selected to speak are Touro University California (TUC) graduating students Michael David Dick, Steve Kim, and Martha McCoy, each representing the College of Osteopathic Medicine, College of Pharmacy, and the College of Education and Health Sciences, respectively.

Michael David Dick, representing the College of Osteopathic Medicine, graduated with a master’s degree from New York Medical College before attending TUC. Mr. Dick was involved in various clubs, organizations and community service projects while at Touro, including serving in leadership roles in the Pediatrics Club, Student Osteopathic Medical Association, Sigma Sigma Phi and the Gold Humanism Honor Society. Mr. Dick will begin a family medicine residency at Brown University/Memorial Hospital in Pawtucket, RI.

Representing the College of Pharmacy is Steve Kim, a second-generation pharmacist who earned his bachelor’s degree in psychology from UC Berkeley. This summer, he will begin a Pharmacy Practice Residency at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, California. Mr. Kim has served as Class President and President of the College of Pharmacy Board Student Government Association and represented TUC as a Top 10 Finalist at the 2012 American Pharmacists Association National Patient Counseling Competition. Earlier this year, the College of Pharmacy faculty nominated him for the “One-to-One” award by the American Pharmacists Association and Pharmacy Today magazine.  

Graduating student Martha McCoy will represent the College of Education and Health Sciences. She received her bachelor’s degree from Evergreen State College and later, received her Physician Assistant – Master of Health Sciences degree from Duke University. After 13 years in clinical practice, Ms. McCoy recognized a passion for education and received her teaching credential in 1996. She discovered Touro’s Master’s degree in Innovative Learning program while participating in a pilot project to improve early childhood literacy by using iPads in kindergarten, a research investigation by Touro University. She recently joined the adjunct faculty at Touro University Graduate School of Education.

“This year’s honorary student speakers have not only achieved great success in their education but are also strong embodiments of Touro University California’s mission to serve, to lead, and to teach,” Marilyn Hopkins, Ph.D., Provost and Chief Operating Officer at TUC said. “We have some of the most dynamic students in the country and I’m excited to have them representing our University.”

Speaker Alan Kadish, M.D., President and Chief Executive Officer of Touro College and Touro University, will also address the 2013 graduating class. The Class of 2013 represents Touro University California’s largest graduating class.
