For the students in the TUN Occupational Therapy master’s degree program who are completing an advanced course in assistive technologies and adaptive devices the Assistive Technology Fair is the final project. Students individually exhibit a piece of adaptive equipment they have designed and constructed, along with a brief case study detailing its purpose and use.

“The students are always creative in designing assistive devices that can really make a difference in the Southern Nevada community and beyond,” said Associate Professor and Director of the School of Occupational Therapy Yvonne Randall. “It’s wonderful to celebrate the eighth year of success with this project and see the students embark on projects to help with everyday tasks. Many of the devices you see on campus have the potential to benefit thousands who struggle with disabilities.”

Projects on display at the Assistive Technology Fair will include modified devices to assist in hygiene and grooming activities such as fingernail care and hair care; sports adaptations for tennis, golfing, bike riding, and even English horseback riding; home modifications for laundry baskets, baby strollers and cribs; devices to assist with food preparation in the kitchen; adaptations for musical instruments; and many more.
