Video Interviewing Tips
Participating in a virtual career fair is a great opportunity to connect with employers and showcase your skills. Below are practical tips to help you set up your space and technology so you can make a strong impression.
Prepare your environment:
Make sure your space is clutter-free, quiet, and free of distractions. Test your WiFi connection and ensure good lighting.
Position your device correctly:
Your camera should be at eye level, about two feet away. Your face should fill most of the frame with a simple, uncluttered background. If needed, adjust your laptop height with a stand or books. Avoid using a mobile device; if you must, ensure it is stable and not handheld.
Lighting matters:
Use bright lighting directed toward your face. Avoid light directly overhead or behind you. Sitting in front of a sunlit window will make your face harder to see.
Choose your setting wisely:
A clean background is essential. Neutral items like bookshelves, paintings, or plants are fine. Avoid interviewing in a bedroom. If that is your only option, be sure to use a professional-looking virtual background.
