Eligibility

While only students can be recipients of the awards, all students and faculty are eligible to submit an abstract for consideration in the poster competition for digitally presenting at Research Day, and the opportunity of being selected as an Outstanding poster presenter on-site, so long as the project was conducted through Touro auspices and the submitter is from one of the following campuses:

  • Touro New York (includes TCDM)
  • New York Medical College
  • Nevada
  • California
  • New Mexico
  • Montana

Abstract Components

Your abstract must include the following components:

Introduction

Should include research context/significance (what question the research is answering, importance in today’s climate), hypothesis or purpose. This should be brief and attractive to the reader.

Methodology

Succinct description of the type of study and pertinent information

Results & Conclusion:

Describe what your results were, what you conclude, and significance of the findings.

The abstract should be a summarization—not direct quotations or defense—of the proposed presentation. It should not contain references.

Your abstract must consist of ≤350 words.

Scoring/Selection (by local judging committee)

The goal of the judges is to recognize true excellence. Judges will use a numerical scoring system with a range of 1 to 5, with 1 being the best (half point scores are allowed: e.g., 1.5, 2.5). The overall score of an abstract will be calculated using the scoring rubric detailed below. That score will be used to determine which authors will be invited to submit posters for the virtual poster presentations and then for the in-person poster presentation.

The same numerical scoring system will be used to select the winning posters for the poster competition. However, to be included in the competition, the completed poster must be submitted for review.

Scoring Rubric:

  • Innovation [1=Contains new concepts/theoretical frameworks, methods, or devices; 5=Contains no new concepts, methods, or devices]
  • Relevance/Importance [1=Significantly advances knowledge in an area which has potential to improve people’s lives; 5=Study does not advance current knowledge]
  • Significance and future directions [1=Importance of findings and where they lead in the future makes sense in the context of the study; 5=Importance of findings or future work absent or extremely unclear]
